Want to Learn Which Nursing Homes in your Area Provide the Best Care?

If you do, Medicare has just made it simpler with its new "5 Star Rating" system. I live in Roanoke, Virginia and used the system to learn the following about nursing homes within 25 miles of Roanoke. The nursing homes receiving the highest ratings include:

South Roanoke Nursing Home
Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
Snyder Nursing Home (Salem, VA)

The nursing homes receiving the worst scores included:

Avante at Roanoke
Raleigh Court Health Care Center
Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation Center
Friendship Health and Rehabilitation Center
Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
Virginia Veterans Care Center
Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center
Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, (Fincastle, VA)

My Take: Everyone should take advantage of this new resource BEFORE placing a loved on in a nursing home.
