On Thursday, a certified nursing home assistant was ordered to stand trial in a nursing home abuse case that alleges he molested an 85-year-old patient that resides at the long-term care facility.

The alleged attack occurred on July 1 at Joseph Villa, in Salt Lake City. His charges include Class A misdemeanor lewdness, first-degree felony rape and second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse.

During a 3rd District Court preliminary hearing, a detective testified that the victim, who is wheelchair bound, was "articulate, attentive and able to give a good description" of the attack.

According to a police report, a hospital examination showed the woman suffered lacerations and abrasions to her genitals.

An arraignment is scheduled for September 17. If he is found guilty of rape, he faces life in prison.
