Admit it...we all want to look and feel younger and liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries performed in America. The problem for surgeons who conduct the procedure is that more and more people are choosing non-surgical procedures such as light treatments and facial antiwrinkle injectables. The surgeons...seeing a decrease in profitability...have come up with a new procedure called Smartlipo.

Tumescent liposuction has been the standard procedure for body sculpting for years. Smartlipo, introduced in the US just over a year ago, uses a laser which melts excess fat so it can be drawn away from the body. Its US marketer, Cynosure, Inc., reports that several thousand people have been treated with Smartlipo.

The problem is that there is no scientific evidence in human tests that Smartlipo improves outcomes, tightens skin, or speeds recovery better than traditional tumescent liposuction...and it costs $3,000 to $10,000 more than tumescent liposuction! William P. Coleman, III, MD, editor of the journal of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery goes further to say:

Smartlipo is a marketing gimmick to get people through the door.

Better check out your options if your surgeon suggests Smartlipo is best for you....they may be making the recommendation based upon what is best for their (your doctor's) pocket book.
