Most stock brokers are honest and hard working professionals. They work hard for their clients and they do their homework BEFORE recommending a specific stock or other investment. The list of well-known companies includes Charles Schwab, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney, and on and on and on...

The flip side of the honest, hard-working, and ethical investment professional is the stock broker who is just out to make a profit! A stock broker who buys and sells excessively in order to charge transaction fees. Or pushes the purchase of stocks they have reason to know may be financially unsound. But the really "bad' guys are the ones who, despite their clients' age and low tolerance for risk, push highly speculative and volatile stocks and investments.

Given the disaster on Wall Street many Americans have lost substantial sums from their retirement accounts. Did your broker know your tolerance to risk? Did your broker take into consideration the anticipated date of your retirement? Good questions and you deserve good answers.

My take: Be an informed consumer of financial information. If you have lost significant sums due to questionable and inappropriate financial advice....Demand answers to your Questions and talk with an Attorney who is knowledgeable of the available remedies.
