The Hooker Furniture Company of Martinsville, Virginia, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has announced a recall of 1,300 imported bunk beds sold to retailers by Hooker. The beds pose a risk of strangulation for children because of gaps between parts in the upper bunk. The gap exceeds the federal bunk bed safety standard.

The beds were sold by Hooker Furniture retailers nationwide, from August of 2005 to August of 2007, under the group names Albany Park, Swedish Accents, Mariner's Landing, and Chelsea's Place. Consumers should contact Hooker Furniture directly at 877.705.8408 or go to its website.

In November, another Virginia furniture manufacturer and importer, Bassett Furniture Industries announced a recall of 8,900 baby cribs imported from China because the cribs posed a risk of entrapment or strangulation.

Do you have bunk beds in your house? If so, take the time and make the effort to assure your childrens' safety!
