Pediatrician Stands Tall

I try to read as much as I can about issues affecting medical malpractice in America. The sources include books, newspapers, television reports and yes...even blogs written by doctors...and that is where I found Dr. J's Housecalls!

On June 19, Dr. J (a pediatrician practicing in North Carolina) wrote about a fellow physician whose poor skills landed him before the North Carolina Board of Medicine. Dr. J stated the physician at issue, "callously inflicted a horrific head injury upon an innocent that, in any other setting, would have warranted charges for child abuse." Pretty strong words coming from another health care professional.

Dr. J's biggest complaint is that nothing has happened to this doctor for over two years and he fears no disciplinary action will ever be taken by the Board of Medicine. I think having the Board of Medicine oversee physician competence is like having the proverbial "fox guarding the hen house."

Like it or not, it is the trial lawyers who protect the consumers of medical care in America.
