Got MRSA!

I know it is not a good idea to play on the marketing phrase, "Got Milk," but I just couldn't help myself. My reasoning is that it seems as if MRSA is as common today as cow's milk.

Most people know that MRSA is an infection is caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria — often called "staph." MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It's a strain of staph that's resistant to the broad-spectrum antibiotics commonly used to treat it. MRSA can be fatal...and its everywhere!

At least we can be safe from MRSA at our local hospital emergency room, right? Wrong!

A recent study published in the Annals of Emergency Medicine reports that MRSA often colonizes in emergency department personnel, which can put many patients at risk for contracting the life-threatening infection.

I have spent almost decade on this disaster, day after day: there at the beginning, with pigs and in pig country when the horror story started.

We decided on a self-sufficient lifestyle and walked into a nightmare.

The shame is that so much emphasis was placed on the over-prescription of antibiotics to humans, when bigger dangers lay with veterinary over use.

There is little doubt that MRSA in pigs has been leaking into the hospitals for some years.

There was a nasty mutation to a porcine circovirus in Britain in 1999 which caused an epidemic that required huge quantities of antibiotics to handle the consequences.

MRSA in pigs was the result, usually the ST398 strain.

The Dutch picked up the problem about four years ago and commendably make everything they knew public.

Both circovirus and MRSA epidemics have now travelled the world along with accompanying cover-ups. It is quite a nasty situation - now coming to light in the USA.

MRSA st398, mutated circovirus and various other unpleasant zoonotic diseases have now reached American pig farms.

The people exposing the scandal in the US are to be commended.

I have extensive records available to anyone researching the link and can often answer general questions quickly and accurately.

I'm sorry but why does everything have to go back to pigs? I work in a hospital lab AND a hog confinement. Our confinement doesn't use antibiotics unless absolutely necessary. And most companies that buy their pork from us prefer we don't use antibiotics. Anytime we have a sick animal, we have to tag it if we use ANY antibiotics.

The reason MRSA is such a big deal is because it shows resistances are forming which means it will soon be resistant to some of the more powerful antibiotics we have available. There are 2 classes of MRSA, community aquired and hospital aquired. I see MRSA EVERY DAY, and very few are hospital aquired. We research this thoroughly at our hospital because of the concern. 60% of health care workers are colonized with MRSA, and considering MRSA is just now showing up in horses, I don't think it's fair to send everything back to pork.

In my opninion, the main reason the superbug is so prevalent now is patients coming to the hospital and DEMANDING antibiotics if they don't feel good. Not everyone is guilty of this, but a majority are (my own family included) and needs to stop. Antibiotics don't work on viruses. A cold is a virus. Enough said.

Thank you for your time.

I like pigs, pig farmers and pork, and have raised pigs and eaten our own pork so I'm certainly not having a go at individual pig farmers.

Like Steve Jobs and Patrick Swayze, I have had Pancreatic Cancer for a few years, so I'm not making this public for my own benefit.

I even travelled to the US at my own expense after a Whipple operation to warn your authorities back in 2005 that things were going wrong in the UK and to be careful to protect the prairies.

I'm very aware of the distinction between CA and HA, but Pandora in the form of ST398 was out of the box some years ago, and you now have it in your pigs, pig farmers, pork and people.

Genetic fingerprinting will no doubt eventually prove the source, but in the meantime you do have to do more to avoid having MRSA ridden hospitals like Britain, Ireland and Canada. The Dutch and Danes should be copied. They test all pig and pork workers at the hospital door for MRSA and have much lower rates as a result.

I appreciate that passions are hot now in the US, but it is the pig and pork workers and their families that are at most risk from MRSA st398.

Check the Dutch research.

I've had MRSA now for 3.5 years. At current count I have 36 individual scars over my body. As I am writing this I have a nice big gauze bandied over my forearm with a recent outbreak healing.

I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Here's something to ponder:

I stopped going in for antibiotics around the 28 or 29th outbreak. Whats interesting, my outbreaks began to clear up quicker, and aren't as severe.

My theory is allowing my body's natural immune response to build up instead of introduced antibiotics is helping fight a better fight against this problem.

If you want to prevent MRSA and other nasty infections, try StaphAseptic. It's available at drug stores like Walgreens. Thanks!

There is a new weapon in the fight against MRSA that is now FDA-cleared and commercially available in the United States. The Microcyn® Technology (More ... ) is a safe-as-saline anti-infective that quickly eradicates a broad range of pathogens, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria (including MRSA and VRE), viruses, fungi and spores. Dual-action in nature, in addition to killing the infection, the Microcyn also accelerates the wound-healing process by reducing inflammation in the wound and increasing nutrient-rich blood and oxygen flow to the wound bed. Twenty-five clinical studies have demonstrated Microcyn to be both safe and effective in killing pathogens. There’s an excellent doctor discussion of this new technology at YouTube:

Protect your family from MRSA
"Think Outside Inside"
"Natural germ killing, odor reducing processes found in sunlight and thunderstorms are recreated in the home."
Laboratory studies conducted at Kansas State University have scientifically concluded our "ActivePure Technology" inactivated MRSA Staph 99.99% with about 97% of that kill in just two hours! Reducing dust, pollen, smoke, gases, cooking and pet odors, bacteria, salmonella, ecoli, mold spores, viruses and many other airborne contaminants, while reducing asthma triggers and allergies. Eliminating germs on kitchen counter top surfaces, cafeteria and playtime areas, restrooms, locker rooms, gymnasiums, and exercise equipment.
Officially recognized by NASA Certified Space Technology "ActivePure" with "SurfaceGuard" reduces dust, second hand smoke, pet odors, kills germs, bacteria, mold spores and viruses on surfaces by sanitizing the entire indoor environment 24/7. You can clean a hospital or school all day long, but if one outbreak occurs in the same day as the cleaning process... the infectious disease becomes active again. 24 hour protection is the only way to prevent MRSA and other diseases from spreading.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, health care-associated infections account for an estimated 1.7 million infections and 99,000 associated deaths each year in American hospitals. Over the years, the bacteria, identified as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), has grown increasingly resistant to antibiotics.
MRSA is everywhere and most likely somewhere in your own home. I receive MRSA Alerts on my computer every day. There is “an alarming nationwide increase” in the prevalence of MRSA infections in children. The reason I follow up on MRSA Alerts is because I am also a very concerned parent and want to see more being done to safeguard our children and educators. So, I am going to all local and private schools, hospitals and nursing homes in my area offering free demonstrations.
My main goal is to help educate parents, students, teachers, and medical staff just how important it is to have this technology in place, to first of all protect our children and loved ones, secondly to bring about a sense of public awareness that there are real solutions. "ActivePure" technology not only helps to protect the entire education system and medical profession from increasing lawsuits and rising medical costs, it also can, and will save lives.
Our "FreshAir" purifiers are in many residences, schools, hospitals and nursing homes around the world and they are the most cost effective air purification systems found in today's marketplace. The beauty of these units is that they are lightweight, portable and can be conveniently taken anywhere they are needed the most.
We also offer "DuctWoRx" to provide clean, fresh, sanitized air, continuously throughout an entire school, nursing home, or hospital. Very popular and affordable holiday gifts for college students, or a great surprise for Mom and Dad. Ideal for asthma and allergy sufferers.
Just think of the difference it can make in your home or business.
Teachers, students and employees once experiencing headaches, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, allergy or cold like symptoms, normally respiratory in nature, are recognizing the many benefits. Our products also kill dust mites. The largest contributing factor in triggering asthma, and countless cases of eczema. Exposure to the mites in the first crucial year of life, can trigger a lifelong allergy. Schools, and daycare centers with our equipment in place have reported up to a 75% reduction in absenteeism.
Use "LaundryPure" and never buy detergents, bleach, dryer sheets or fabrics softeners again. With no need to sort, your garments will come out whiter, brighter and fluffier. Eliminate benzene, a highly toxic compound and carcinogen found in laundry detergent to brighten your families clothes, endangers humans, wildlife and the environment. These are the type of chemicals commonly found to cause allergic reactions when they come in contact with the skin.
See for yourself, how breathing, sleeping, and feeling better can enhance your families quality of life and provide peace of mind in knowing you have the power to reduce illnesses and infectious diseases in your home by simply preventing them.
